MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Congratulations to the Dallas Stars and Mark Shannon on their second RHL Cup and first in 12 years. Parity appears to have hit the RHL as Dallas is the 7th straight different team to win the Cup since Sean Savage and his Leafs won 4 in a row. PO Boulianne had a great season as well as he fought through a tough Eastern conference to survive into the Finals but ran out of gas against the Stars though playing them tough in all 5 games.  With the finish of our finals, the season is now complete with Awards and Ballot results below and we can finally get started on the summer and hopefully get the game a little bit earlier this year and get us back to our normal October starts. I am glad to see everyone returning for another season, but if anyone does change their mind for any reason, please let me know asap so I can have a plan in place to fill the spot (I do have one potential owner interested so we would be fine if needed). I am going to start working on a new Excel file for next year, hopefully will have that out in a week or two with the updated stats and then we just wait on the new ratings. Thanks guys for another great season, enjoy the summer and look forward to seeing you all next season!

Ballot voting is complete and the one prop we had to change the draft lottery has passed with 20 yes votes and only a two no votes (a couple of abstentions). The constitution has been updated to reflect this change.

2022-2023 RHL Awards voting is complete, thanks for the 19 teams who placed their votes, and here are your winners:

Wayne Gretzky Award (MVP) - Leon Draisaitl, NY Rangers

Draisaitl wins his 4th straight RHL MVP award, with 16 of 19 first place votes and on all but 1 ballot overall.  Stamkos finishes distant 2nd with no first place votes but 7 second place nods, while Shesterkin finishes third with 1 first place vote and on 6 ballots overall.  McDavid and Sorokin each get a first place vote to round things out.

Terry Sawchuk Trophy (MVG) - Igor Shesterkin, Los Angeles/Vancouver

Igor Shesterkin puts up huge numbers this season and gets 16 of 19 first place votes to easily win this award. The amazing thing is he is likely the first goalie in the RHL to have been traded during the season and still win this award showing up on all 19 ballots.  Juuse Saros and Jacob Markstrom finish second and third respectively and to add to the strange for this award this season, neither of them gets a first place vote but does it on the strength of being on multiple ballots (7 for Saros and 5 for Markstrom).  Bobrovsky, Jarry and Sorokin each get a single first place vote to round out the top 5 (all tied for 4th).

Doug Harvey Trophy (Best Defensive Dman) - Devon Toews, San Jose

Tightest race of any award this season as Devon Toews ends up with 6 first place votes, as does Jacob Trouba, but Toews gets the edge with his 4 second place votes and 10 overall ballots.  Trouba ends up on 9 ballots to finish just 7 total points back and Pietrangelo gets 3 first place votes to finish third, just edging out Adam Fox.  Tanev had 2 first place votes and Fox and McNabb had the final 2 top votes.

Bobby Orr Award (Best Offensive Dman) - Roman Josi, NY Rangers

Another tight race as Josi and Makar each get 7 first place votes, but again it is the 7 more second place votes for Josi that gets him the top spot for the second time in three seasons.  Josi was on 16 overall ballots while Makar made it on 13 to finish a fairly close second.  Hedman gets 4 first place votes to finish third and Fox gets the final top vote to round things out.

Bob Gainey Trophy (Best Defensive Forward) - Anze Kopitar, Dallas

Kopitar gets 7 first place votes finishing well ahead of Pavelski who had 2 first place votes and 4 second place.  Cirelli gets ends up in third with a single first place vote but on 7 overall ballots and Hertl gets 2 top nods, while Bonino and Couture each get a single first place vote.

Cam Neely Award (Best Power Forward) - Brady Tkachuk, Buffalo

Not a repeat winner, but Brady keeps this one in the family (Matthew took this one last year) as he gets 9 first place votes and 16 ballots overall for an easy win over Brad Marchand who gets 3 first place votes but is only on 11 total ballots.  Svechnikov gets 2 first place votes to finish third and Hartman, Bunting, Wilson and Landeskog each get a single top nod to finish things off.

Ace Bailey Award (Rookie of the Year) - Moritz Seider, Edmonton

Seider wins this one going away with 12 first place votes and he is on all 19 ballots as the best rookie of this season.  Boldy finishes a very distant second with 4 first place votes and Raymond squeezes out third with a single top vote but on 13 overall ballots (9 third place votes).  Lundell gets the other 2 first place votes to end up in 4th.

Scotty Bowman Award (Coach of the Year) - Mike McMillan, Florida

Mike finishes with the most points in the league finishing is the regular seasons top team and his 7 first place votes and 12 overall ballots puts him at the top for this award.  Mark Shannon finishes second with 3 first place votes but his 10 total ballots puts him ahead of Peter Brooks in third despite his 4 first place votes (but only 7 ballots overall).  Stef Grubb gets 3 first place votes as well and Conner McNeil gets the other two for the top spot to round out the top 5.

Sam Pollock Award (GM of the Year) - Jeremy Martinyuk, Vancouver

Jeremy gets 9 first place votes to edge out Alex Lane for the leagues best GM.  Lane has 3 first place votes and was on a total of 10 ballots which keeps him in second ahead of David Boutin who got just 1 first place vote but was on 9 ballots.  Stef Grubb had 3 first place votes to help him finish 4th and Kerri Taylor finishes in the fifth spot with a single first place vote but 6 ballots total.

Bob Nystrom Award (Playoff MVP) - Chris Kreider, DAL

Kreider finishes third in playoff points, second in playoff goals, tied for third in playoff powerplay goals and led his Dallas Stars to the RHL Cup. Frederik Andersen was a close second as he puts up a 2.17 GAA and .926 Sv Pct to keep Philadelphia in the playoff fight all the way to the end.  Other players who deserved consideration were Sorokin, Norris with 12 goals, Couture with 3 playoff winners, Gaudreau who led all playoers in scoring with 25 points and Draisaitl who was tops with 13 goals in just 12 games.
