MESSAGE FROM
THE COMMISSIONER
Another
regular season in the books, congratulations to Florida on winning the
Commissioner’s Cup at 124 points, just edging out Pittsburgh by 2
points. Also, congrats to the 16 teams who made it into the playoffs,
including Los Angeles who holds off a last day charge from Edmonton
for the final playoff spot. More info on the playoffs to come soon,
but below is a recap of the final block and where everyone finished
up. St. Louis will hold the #1 spot in the lottery, followed by
Colorado and then Toronto in the top 3.
In the Horton,
it came down to the final set of games as Philadelphia needed to win 4
of 5 to get to the division title and other than a stumble against
Buffalo, they did just that and win the division on the ROW
tiebreaker. With the #1
seed they will face the better wild card team which is Anaheim in
round 1. Washington edges
Arizona by one point for home ice in the 2 vs 3 battle.
In the Howe, NY Rangers win the division easily as well as the
conference and they face wild card #2 which is Carolina who wins 4 of
their last 5 to squeak by Jersey for the final playoff spot. Chicago
does just enough in the final home games to hold on to the #2 slot and
will host the NY Islanders in round 1.
In the Orr
division, Dallas easily holds on to the #1 spot over San Jose and they
will face Boston in round 1 after the Bruins wrap up the first wild
card position. San Jose
finishes well ahead of Montreal to hold home ice in round 1 over the
Canadiens. The Lemieux
holds your Commissioner’s Cup winner as Florida finishes with the best
record in the league, just holding on over Pittsburgh, and they will
face the LA Kings who somehow hold off Edmonton for the final playoff
spot in the West.
Pittsburgh will host Vancouver who did put up 105 points, but still
finish 17 points back out of second place despite that feat.
With the
season complete, we have some regular season awards that can be sent
out based on the final stats, congratulations to all!
