MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

With the regular season done, we are on to the playoffs.  I have updated the website with playoff files and there are instructions below on how to set up the league for the playoffs.  Please make sure you get your coaches done asap and if you are the road team for the first two games, please get them out asap.  Keep an eye on usage for low gp players and goalies please and good luck to all and let’s get the playoffs started!

In the Prince of Wales conference the NY Rangers pulled away late to take the conference #1 position and home ice through the entire playoffs.  NY Islanders finish second in the Howe and will host Chicago in round 1. Carolina finishes fourth and just behind Buffalo in overall points so will face the Rangers in round 1.  St. Louis finishes just ahead of the Flyers and will host Buffalo in round 1.  Philadelphia will host Anaheim in the other series in the Horton.

In the Campbell Conference Toronto holds on for the top spot in the conference and will face the lowest wild card left and not a team from their division.  Montreal just stays ahead of Dallas and will host the Stars in round 1.  Florida wins the Lemieux and will get the top wild card team left.  Pittsburgh just edges out Colorado for home ice in their series.  Edmonton gets a win at the end and gets the prize of facing Florida while Calgary gets Toronto in round 1 (yeah, great price :O).

Here are the playoff matchups:

Prince of Wales
Buffalo vs St. Louis
Anaheim vs Philadelphia

Carolina vs NY Rangers
Chicago vs NY Islanders

Campbell Conference
Calgary vs Toronto
Dallas vs Montreal

Edmonton vs Florida
Colorado vs Pittsburgh

If you look to the bottom of the newsletter you will see the overuse from this season. Not too bad and in most cases I am guessing it was coaches not being imported as it was just 1 or 2 games and these will not be penalized. There were a few that were overused a bunch more and were already guys who were limited in how many games they could play in a series and those players will miss the playoffs for the teams listed below:

Colorado – Hjalmarsson – overused 5 games, will miss entire series
Dallas – Dumoulin – overused 7 games, will miss entire series
Edmonton – Gagner – overused 6 games, will miss entire series

Here is a quick updated on playoff usage rules for those who may need them:

       PLAYOFF USAGE LIMITS FOR SKATERS:

        1) 60 or more NHL games can play all playoff games (per series)
        2) 55-59 NHL games      6 playoff games
        3) 50-54 NHL games      5 playoff games
        4) 40-49 NHL games      4 playoff games
        5) 30-39 NHL games      3 playoff games
        6) 20-29 NHL games      2 playoff games
        7) 10-19 NHL games      1 playoff game

      PLAYOFF USAGE LIMITS FOR GOALTENDERS
Goalies with 1-14 games may only dress as backups
Goalies with 15-19 games may only start 1 game per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 20-24 games may only start 2 games per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 25-29 games may only start 3 games per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 30+ games may start all playoff games in a series (or may be dressed as a backup)

Injury backups may only play if the computer pulls the starter due to an injury OR the team is down by 4 or more goals at any time in the game (a mercy rule basically). The second part may be accomplished by a computer setting for road games that is defined as a team being down by 4 or more goals OR by a home coach making this decision when his team is down by 4 or more goals.

Once a goalie has made his maximum allowable starts he must follow all rules for Injury backups as stated above.

There is a new playoff file which you will need to download and then unzip into a new folder called RHL2021Playoffs and then switch to that season in the game and you should be all set.  If you are sending the same lineup for all 7 games then just a regular coach should work. If you want to set specific lineups for each game, then you need to use the Daily Lineups as it gives you a lot more flexibility. As soon as you have your coach set for your road games, please send that out to the league and your opponent.

**** IMPORTANT  - Action PC Game File Update dated 11/19/2020.

You need to send out game exports as well as boxscores for all playoff games by the due date on the website by 9 pm. This is MANDATORY, both the exports AND boxscores please.   Game summaries are nice, even if it’s just one quick
comment for all games, just adds to the league and makes it easier for everyone to see what is going on.
If I do not receive game exports after sending updates on Saturday and Sunday, I will send one more request directly about an hour before the deadline on Sunday.  Unless I get a request for an extension of time, I will wait til the deadline and about 30 minutes later I will sim games so I can get new files out before I go to bed Sunday night.
