MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Congratulations to Mike McMillan and the Florida Panthers and their second RHL Cup win.  The Panthers won the Commissioners Cup by 1 point over Edmonton and then proceeded to back that up with 16 playoff wins to take home the big prize.  Other than a game 2 blowout where the Panthers could do no wrong, the Detroit Red Wings and Jean Marois made this a tough, tight series, taking a pair of games at home after falling down 2-0, then losing a tough game 5 at Florida, 4-3 and then coming back home and take the Panthers to OT only to again fall by that same 4-3 score as the Wings continue to look for the elusive first RHL Cup win.

With the game to be released this coming week, we are now getting ready to start on next season. I will work on an new excel file next weekend hopefully and also a new set of league files as soon as I have the game in my hands.  I am working to find a new owner in Pittsburgh and if anyone else doesn’t plan on returning, please let me know asap so I can fill that hole as well before we get rolling. My plan is to have a new excel out by early August, then give everyone a week to look at things and start planning their offseason. I will then open up trading and start taking free agent decisions as we aim for a mid to late August draft. I will also work on getting the draft order up and deciphering the lottery as we did make a change to follow the NHL last year and have to figure out how to account for their change to the bottom 8 teams in the lottery since that team will have the #1 overall pick.

Here is the final awards from the end of the season, congratulations to all who won awards, you were definitely very deserving and many close races this season.  Thank you for the 15 team who took the time to vote.

Wayne Gretzky Award – Leon Draisaitl, NY Rangers

Draisaitl was the clear winner with 12 first place votes and triple the next player, Aleksandr Barkov who had one first place vote.  Ben Bishop and Thomas Greiss each also had a single first place vote.

Terry Sawchuk Trophy – Ben Bishop, Edmonton Oilers

Bishop as the run away winner with 12 first place votes and on all but one ballot overall.  Greiss finishes a distant second with a first place vote and Vasilevskiy and Andersen each got a single vote for the top spot as well.

Doug Harvey Trophy – Mark Giordano, Florida Panthers

Gio wins a very tight vote over Parayko with his one extra first place vote being the difference (6 to 5), as Parayko was actually on more ballots (12 to 10).  Andy Greene finishes in third with a pair of first place votes himself.

Bobby Orr Award – Mark Giordano, Florida Panthers

Gio pulls off the sweep as he edges out Brent Burns with 7 first place votes to just 3 for Burns who was actually on 12 ballots to just 9 for Gio.  Rielly and Carlson finish in a tie for third but Rielly gets it with one extra first place vote.

Bob Gainey Trophy – Ryan O’Reilly, NY Rangers

Despite a bit of a disappointing season, the Rangers get their second offseason award as ROR takes the top spot in a tight vote with 4 players all within 7 total points of each other. O’Reilly had 5 first place votes to just three each for Couturier and Barkov who ended up tied in second and Toews had a pair of votes for the top spot as well to round out that group.

Cam Neely Award – Brad Marchand, Dalls Stars

Marchand just edges Matthew Tkachuk by a single point overall as Marchand had 6 first place votes to four for Tkachuk which was the difference.  Evander Kane also had 4 first place votes to finish a close third.

Ace Bailey Award – Brady Tkachuk, Buffalo Sabres

Been a long time since the Sabres had a rookie of the year and Tkachuk wins a very tight vote over Elias Petterson with both having 5 first place votes and 5 third place votes. The difference was Tkachuk getting that extra second place vote that put him over the top.  Miro Heiskenan had 3 first place votes and finished in third place.

Scotty Bowman Award – Mike McMillan, Florida Panthers

As expected the Panthers continue to pull in the hardware after their cup winning season and this vote was really close as Mike gets 7 first place votes and 10 votes overall. Craig Steel finishes second with a single first place vote but 6 runner up votes and Mark McNeil finishes in a tight race for third as he, Jean Marois and Mark Shannon all have 2 first place votes.

Sam Pollock Award – Mike McMillan, Florida Panthers

Not surprisingly Mike also takes home GM of the year with 6 first place votes and again 10 ballots overall.  Craig Steel again finishes second with 2 first place votes and Jean Marois finishes third with a pair of first place votes for himself.

Bob Nystrom Award – Thomas Greiss, Florida Panthers

Panthers win the cup and their goalie, Greiss, puts up outstanding numbers winning all 16 games with a 1.82 goals against and .922 save percentage which was more than enough to get his team the top spot with a solid offense in front of him.  Also considered for this award were hit team mates, Matt Duchene, Sean Monahan and Brayden Point while Jonathan Huberdeau, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews were all there from the runner up Detroit Red Wings.

Please guys, you have to make sure you import coaches before you are playing games. Many of you are not and those are showing up as guys are being over or underplayed. I don’t want to have to impose penalties but it isn’t fair to your opponents if you aren’t doing this one thing before playing your games. Also at a minimum you need to be adding boxscores to your game reports.  I don’t need .flm files or game exports, just the box that you save at the end of the game please.

There is a final playoff file for the finals which you will need to download and then unzip into a new folder called RHL1920-Playoffs and then switch to that season in the game and you should be all set.  If you are sending the same lineup for all 7 games then just a regular coach should work. If you want to set specific lineups for each game, then you need to use the Daily Lineups as it gives you a lot more flexibility. As soon as you have your coach set for your road games, please send that out to the.

**** IMPORTANT  - Action PC Game File Update dated 03/06/2020.

You need to send out game exports as well as boxscores for all home games
as soon as the games are played. This is MANDATORY, both the exports
AND boxscores please.   Game summaries are nice, even if it’s just one quick
comment for all games, just adds to the league and makes it easier for
everyone to see what is going on.
