MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Well after some serious issues getting the playoff started things moved along fairly well and we have all 8 results in for round 1 without much of a surprise as only San Jose and New Jersey pull mild upsets but all four #1 seeds are still alive and should make for some good hockey in round 2.  I know that the schedules looks short for round 2 and I won’t push you guys too hard about having games in next Sunday but I would like to be done with the playoffs shortly after the NHL and before the end of June, so please, do what you can to get coaches out quickly and games played in a timely manner and lets move this along please.

In the Prince of Wales Conference, St. Louis struggles throughout and takes Carolina to a game seven before getting the series win while Washington sweeps through Philadelphia and sets up a one versus two matchup for the Horton Division.  Detroit takes a few extra games but dispatches the pesky Islanders while New Jersey pulls the only mild upset on this side of the bracket after winning game 2 in New York and then holding on to home ice to down the Rangers and set up a matchup of Detroit vs New Jersey for the Howe division title.

In the Clarence Campbell Conference, Toronto does what they do and easily sets down Colorado in 5 games while San Jose wins twice in Dallas to knock off the higher seeded Stars in just 5 games as well and sets up a rematch of last years Orr Division final with the Sharks again looking to send the Leafs to the golf course early.  Both series in the Lemieux Division were barn burners going to a deciding game 7 with home ice determining the winner in all 7 games.  Calgary fights through a tough series with Montreal and shuts out the Canadiens in game 7 to move on to the next round. Edmonton and Florida go back and fourth and it takes OT in game 7 for the Oilers to get the come back win and take the series setting up an Calgary/Edmonton one versus two final.

Playoff usage rules are listed below, please be sure you follow these to the letter as I will be spot checking rosters to make sure no one is using a player more than is allowed.  Play the series at your own pace but they are due by the deadline, so try and not leave it all for the final weekend.  You may send a coach for each individual game or any combination that you choose, just make sure you are clear with your opponent what you are sending (ie is it for games 1 and 2, just game 1 so you can adjust after game 2, or you can even do games 1 thru 7 all at once if you choose). Any questions on the playoffs, please let me know before proceeding so we can ensure that we are all on the same page.
