MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

So the playoffs are here and we are ready to roll. Congratulations to the teams who have made it to the second season, now things get serious and we will find out who the contenders and pretenders are fairly quickly. Who can pull the upset and which powerhouse team will be able to take it all the way til the end? Good luck to all who have made it, we will be taking 3 weeks for round 1 because I am traveling away for a week from the 1st until the 9th and may or may not have time to keep up with things.  See below for some commentary and playoff matchups. I have also included the usage rules for those who need a refresher.  Download the round 1 playoff files from the website, this is the playoff conversion file which you will need to import before you can play any games or create strats. Once you download it, click on Player, Import, Playoff Conversion File and you will be ready to roll.  Please get going on strats asap and most of all have fun guys!

In the Prince of Wales conference, New Jersey takes the Howe division and also the top spot in the conference.  They top the Isles by 2 points forcing the Isles to host Detroit in round 1.  Carolina takes the top wildcard spot and will cross over and face Philadelphia who wins the Horton but finishes a point back of the Devils for the top spot overall.  Anaheim finishes 4 points up on Buffalo in the Horton and will host them in round 1 and Washington rounds out the playoff teams as they finish 3 points ahead of NY Rangers for the final playoff spot and a first round matchup with New Jersey.

In the Campbell Conference Toronto takes the Orr division and top spot in the conference and get to face off with Edmonton in round 1 as they take the #2 wild card spot.  San Jose finishes 2 points back and they get a tough matchup with Dallas who beats out Montreal for 3rd in the division but get the much tougher round 1 game because of it as Montreal finishes as the top wildcard and cross over to play Pittsburgh in round 1.  Calgary just edges out Colorado to earn home ice in their series and Edmonton just beat out Vancouver and Boston for that last wildcard position.

Playoff Matchups

Prince of Wales Conference

Washington vs New Jersey
Detroit vs NY Islanders
Carolina vs Philadelphia
Buffalo vs Anaheim

Clarence Campbell Condference

Edmonton vs Toronto
Dallas vs San Jose
Montreal vs Pittsburgh
Calgary vs Colorado

In the lottery standings we have Los Angeles far and away in the #1 slot, with Florida #2, Chicago #3 and Phoenix and St. Louis both tied for #4 (though the Blues finish with less ROW and will take the #4 slot with the Coyotes falling to #5).  Boston gets the #6 position and NY Rangers and Vancouver are tied for 7th but the Canucks take it with 1 less ROW, so the Rangers are #8 in the lottery.

You need to send out game exports as well as boxscores for all playoff games by the deadline. This is MANDATORY, both the exports AND boxscores please.   Game summaries are nice, even if it’s just one quick comment for all 4 games, just adds to the league and makes it easier for everyone to see what is going on.

PLAYOFF USAGE LIMITS FOR SKATERS:

        1) 60 or more NHL games can play all playoff games (per series)
        2) 55-59 NHL games      6 playoff games
        3) 50-54 NHL games      5 playoff games
        4) 40-49 NHL games      4 playoff games
        5) 30-39 NHL games      3 playoff games
        6) 20-29 NHL games      2 playoff games
        7) 10-19 NHL games      1 playoff game

      PLAYOFF USAGE LIMITS FOR GOALTENDERS
Goalies with 1-14 games may only dress as backups
Goalies with 15-19 games may only start 1 game per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 20-24 games may only start 2 games per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 25-29 games may only start 3 games per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 30+ games may start all playoff games in a series (or may be dressed as a backup)

Injury backups may only play if the computer pulls the starter due to an injury OR the team is down by 4 or more goals at any time in the game (a mercy rule basically). The second part may be accomplished by a computer setting for road games that is defined as a team being down by 4 or more goals OR by a home coach making this decision when his team is down by 4 or more goals.

Once a goalie has made his maximum allowable starts he must follow all rules for Injury backups as stated above.
