MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Congratulations to Sean Savage and his Toronto Maple Leafs as they pull off the three-peat breezing through the playoffs with just 3 losses in 4 series including a 4-1 steam rolling of the NY Islanders in the Cup Finals.  Jean-Guy deserves a lot of credit as he fought through a ton of tough opponents to get to the finals and his guys were just a bit undermanned when they ran into the Leafs.

Thank you all for another great season and I am sad to see that we are losing at least one and as many as 3 good owners as Phil Goldring has decided not to continue with Montreal for next season.  As well Harri Aalto has been super busy and out of touch for a while now and Walter Giese has been MIA as well with neither team casting their Ballot votes and while I am not replacing them just yet I would like everyone to start thinking if you know someone who would be interested in an RHL slot as we need an owner for sure and maybe 3 or 4 if I can’t get in touch with these guys soon.  If anyone is in touch with either of them, please have them get with me asap as I would hate to replace someone to only find out they were just out of touch for whatever reason.

Final RHL files are on the website for anyone that is interested in keeping track of the playoff results.

RHL Ballot Results are in and only two props passed, I will update the constitution to reflect this new change in goalie usage policy and lottery percentages (which take effect for next season).

Prop #1 – Goalie Usage – All teams must play their highest rated goalies to the full extend of their usage.

Yes –    13
No  -     4
Abstain – 2

PASSED

Prop #2 – Change in Lottery Percentages

Yes –    16
No  -     3
Abstain – 0

PASSED

Prop #3a – Free Agency Changes – Raise Minimum Salary

Yes –     9
No  -     9
Abstain – 1

FAILED

Prop #3b – New Minimum Salary – Irrelevant as #3a did not pass

Prop #3c – Lower the Salary Cap

Yes –     2
No  -    15
Abstain – 2

FAILED

Prop 3d – Adjust the Salary Formula

Yes -     6
No  -    13
Abstain – 0

FAILED

I will be compiling the Awards results over the next week and will post them in a separate newsletter of their own as they take a lot of work to put together.  So the few teams who haven’t voted have time if they want to get them in.

Update Coaching Records

Here are some of the highlights and changes with last seasons final records added in:

Dean (723) joins me (767) with over 700 wins

John L, Jean-Guy, Grant, Mark S, Mike McIlmoyle and Harri all join Craig and Curtis in the 600 win club

Jeff, Mike McMillan and Walter all get their 500th wins this year.

Jean and Michel go over 400 wins

Buffalo, New Jersey, Edmonton and Toronto as a franchise all have over 700 wins over 16 seasons.

With his third straight championship, Sean (98) is right behind me (99) for playoff wins in 6 less seasons and we should both go over 100 next year.

Mark S and Jean-Guy went over 80 playoff wins.

Harri got his 70th playoff win.

Buffalo is the only team to make the playoffs in all 16 RHL seasons.

Toronto leads in all time franchise playoff wins at 116, Buffalo is #2 with 99.
