MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

First round is done and was about as boring as can be as all 8 higher seeds won their series and we have 4 matchups of 1 vs 2 for each of the four divisions. Pretty good job of staying on the timeline, appreciate that and hope we continue to do the same moving forward. Round 2 should be a good one with so all of the top teams still playing, though we have some potential for upsets still and it will be interesting to see which (if any) of those #2 seeds can rise up and pull the upset as I don’t believe we have ever had a conference finals with all 4 #1 seeds still alive.

In the Prince of Wales conference St. Louis and Arizona powered through their series with ease with both only giving away one win to their opponents and after fighting all season for the #1 spot in the division they can finally decide who is the best team in the Horton division and this should be a close one all the way through. In the Howe division, both NY Rangers and Carolina were pushed to 7 games by their opponents but pulled out a win. For Carolina it is a tall hill to climb as they finished a very distant second to the Rangers in the division and this would truly be an upset if they find a way to pull it off.

In the Campbell conference Dallas goes through Colorado pretty easily while San Jose was pushed to the limit by Montreal after coming back from a 3-1 deficit. Dallas finished well ahead of the Sharks in the standings and much like the NYR/CAR series, the Sharks are going to have to seriously step it up to move to the conference finals. Florida struggled to score against Edmonton and let them stick around for 6 games while Vancouver walked through Pittsburgh in 4 games to set up a big matchup in the Lemieux. Florida finished ahead of Vancouver, but the Canucks had a really good season and this should be the tightest matchup that likely goes 6 or 7 games.

PLAYOFF USAGE LIMITS FOR SKATERS:

        1) 60 or more NHL games can play all playoff games (per series)
        2) 55-59 NHL games      6 playoff games
        3) 50-54 NHL games      5 playoff games
        4) 40-49 NHL games      4 playoff games
        5) 30-39 NHL games      3 playoff games
        6) 20-29 NHL games      2 playoff games
        7) 10-19 NHL games      1 playoff game

      PLAYOFF USAGE LIMITS FOR GOALTENDERS
Goalies with 1-14 games may only dress as backups
Goalies with 15-19 games may only start 1 game per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 20-24 games may only start 2 games per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 25-29 games may only start 3 games per series (but may dress as backups in all other games)
Goalies with 30+ games may start all playoff games in a series (or may be dressed as a backup)

Injury backups may only play if the computer pulls the starter due to an injury OR the team is down by 4 or more goals at any time in the game (a mercy rule basically). The second part may be accomplished by a computer setting for road games that is defined as a team being down by 4 or more goals OR by a home coach making this decision when his team is down by 4 or more goals.

Once a goalie has made his maximum allowable starts he must follow all rules for Injury backups as stated above.

Final regular season files are are up.  Remember that all injuries this year are coaches decisions BUT all players are limited to the exact number of NHL games from last year, so plan accordingly.  If you are sending the same lineup for all 8 games then just a regular coach should work. If you want to set specific lineups for each game, then you need to use the Daily Lineups as it gives you a lot more flexibility. As soon as you have your coach set for your 5 road games, please send that out to the list (and list who the coach is for so it is easier for teams to keep the ones they need).  Also, I would ask you PLEASE include your 5 home strats as well both for your sake and mine as if I have to sim your home games for any reason I will just let the game set up your strat if none is defined and you will have to deal with any penalties later on.  I am going to continue using the strat file page and upload everyones coaches to the website like I did in the past so they are easy to find when needed.

**** IMPORTANT  - Action PC Game File Update dated 11/14/2023.

You need to send out game exports as well as boxscores for all 4 home games by the second Sunday of the block at 9 pm This is MANDATORY, both the exports AND boxscores please.   Game summaries are nice, even if it’s just one quick comment for all 4 games, just adds to the league and makes it easier for everyone to see what is going on.  If I do not receive game exports after sending updates on Saturday and Sunday, I will send one more request directly about an hour before the deadline on Sunday.  Unless I get a request for an extension of time, I will wait til the deadline and about 30 minutes later I will sim games so I can get new files out before I go to bed Sunday night.
